To all the Rankin Family, especially Elaine & Cathy who we knew the best. So shocked to hear of Finlay’s passing. Elaine, we have known each other for years & have shared so much in our lives. We send all our love & prayers to you & all the family. May you find solace in the fact that he was so admired by many.
It was so nice to get your card in the mail today because I had been thinking of you so much as we are going through the same with our brother Colin’s passing.

To Sadie, Perry, Curtis and the Rankin siblings – our deepest condolences on Finley’s untimely passing. He was a true gentle man, who always had a smile and a story. We didn’t get to meet many times since our younger days, but it seem we never lost a beat with Finlay. The last time we met Finlay was at Chad’s wedding in 2017, and there we caught up on more stories and laughs. As my father would say, we are not writing or going to the wake for the person who died but rather for his/her survivors – to let them know we care and, in this case, the joy he brought to his friends.
I’ve just learned of Finlay’s passing. I met him when first buying a summer home In Scotsville and Finlay came and cut down many trees for me. I remember being so impressed a man at least 10 years older than me could run circles around me without getting tired. He was so friendly and kind. I haven’t been to cape Breton in 2 years because of the pandemic but was looking forward to seeing Finlay again. My sincere condolences to his family. God’s speed Finlay.
Dear Elizabeth and family
Sending prayers and condolences to you all on the huge loss of your brother Finlay.
