I met Allan and Ester on long weekend in July 2014. They, I and some friends spent a wonderful evening together at the Mabou home of a friend, where we had tea and the most delicious homemade food, especially of the dessert type. Allan always seemed proud to say that he used some of those recipes at the Inn of Glendyer.
That summer and in years following, we had visits at their home with tea and treats made by Allan. It was always a pleasure to visit with them at the beautiful Inn of Glendyer. I can see why they loved it there; the setting is almost magical as it is completely surrounded by every beauty that nature could have bestowed on the area.
I offer my most sincere condolences to you, Ester and to you Daniel and Laura & your families; and to his siblings Ian, Keith, Elizabeth and all their families as well as to his aunts, uncles and extended family.
Such a gentleman he was, always kind and friendly. I was very saddened to receive the news of his death. May he enjoy eternal peace as he is laid to rest in the land he came to love. Sith Dhuibh Daonnan, Ailean; From Margaret Gillis , Halifax NS
My wife Kathy and I met Alan and Esther when they took over the Inn at Glendyer. We have stayed with them every year since, during the Celtic Colours Music Festival.
Alan was an excellent host and he and Esther became our friends. Their historic house was filled with messages of faith; a faith they lived every day.
Breakfasts were legendary, with Alan’s home-made jams and his muffins on the table, along with a plateful of other breakfast items of our own choosing. Every morning, he would read the weather report to his guests at breakfast – a tradition we looked forward to.
As we arrived for our last visit in October, we saw a sign on the door to our room: “The Kevin & Kathy Worth Suite.” We always chose this particular room, and this was an amusing and thoughtful touch.
To Esther and the family, we lament your loss at the same time as we celebrate your loving relationships with this fine man.
