  1. Uncle Winston, What a blessing it was to have you in.our lives. Such a kind hearted lovely man. A testament to what it is to be a man. So so loved by so so many. A role model for me and many others. What a role model you have been in my life. My mom adored you, my Dad put you at the top of his list and my husband recognized how worthy.you were of such praise. You were my Godfather and I bet you were to so many of us. Who wouldn’t choose you? Upon hearing the news of your passing, I sat down on the train and told a complete stranger all about you. So proud to have known you and so proud to tell others about you. My heart goes out to Leanne, Ben and Caitlin, and to all of us who will miss you so. Till we meet again, all our love. Lynn, Dave, Dylan and Seamus.

  2. Winston was an extraordinarily kind and generous man, who would always look for ways to surprise you by doing something he’d overhear you say. You really had to be careful because the next thing you’d know he’d show up with a truck full of supplies from the superstore and start in on any given project. What a beauty! He was known for his inventiveness, and could McGuyver just about anything. Mostly Winston is known for the gentle care he took with everyone in his life, but especially his wives Marie and Jean. I will miss him greatly. Condolences to Leanne and kids for your sudden loss.

  3. Hearing of your sudden passing has left me completely heartbroken. At the same time, my heart is overflowing with gratitude for the incredible person you were and will always be to me.

You were a wonderful, caring, loving, compassionate, and supportive man; a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle. Your absence leaves an enormous void in all our lives. Yet that void is filled with countless cherished memories that will remain with us forever.

I am flooded with memories of happy times and endless laughter. One of my most treasured memories is our legendary Summer of ’89 road trip, a story we continued to talk about for decades, including during our last conversation just three weeks ago. What was supposed to be a two-week visit to Alberta turned into an entire summer of adventure and unforgettable moments for me. We traveled across Canada and through the United States, visiting family and friends wherever we could. We went from Alberta through the United States and to Ontario, on to Nova Scotia to visit Grandpa Beaton, and back again to Ontario and to my surprise I ended up travelling back to Alberta. Along the way, you somehow managed to get Cuzzy Leanne and me discounts everywhere we shopped. It still makes me smile to think about it.

Thank you for your wisdom, guidance, and the advice you so generously shared throughout my life. Your encouragement meant more to me than words can express. I remember our talk together fondly on my parents’ porch.  I am also so grateful for the joy that you and Aunt Jean shared when I married Steve. It meant the world to me that you got to meet “the one” and that he received your wholehearted approval. We plan to check out the beautiful golfing sites that you had mentioned to Steve in Cape Breton.

When Mom passed away, your comforting words when I reached out to you, helped carry me through one of the most difficult times of my life. I will never forget your kindness and support.

I always loved hearing Mom’s stories about you as a child. She often talked about how thoughtful and considerate you were, secretly leaving little gifts for Grandma Beaton to find. Grandma always made a point of acting surprised, even though she knew it was you all along. Those thoughtful acts of kindness never stopped. You continued to share that same generosity and caring spirit with everyone, fortunate enough to know you.

I affectionately nicknamed you “Carrot Top” when I was five years old. I had just started kindergarten, and you were visiting.  I remember listening to your stories about your daughter, Leanne, who was a year older than me, and you loved playing my favorite game, Trouble. I was fascinated by you, and every year after school ended, I would hope you, Aunt Anne, and Leanne would come visit. So many of those hopes became reality, creating summers filled with laughter, fun, and memories I still cherish today.

I fondly remember when Aunt Anne, my dad, and Aunt Mary would sit together telling jokes in our backyard.  The laughter was endless, and those three together were always priceless.  Another special memory is when Aunt Jean loved the pair of shorts I was wearing so much that you took us shopping to buy her the exact same pair. We went to visit Leanne in New Market, and Aunt Jean and I were proudly dressed like the “Bobbsey Twins”. Leanne’s reaction was priceless; makes me smile.  Good times.

My Dad, whom Leanne affectionately nicknamed “Uncle Punchie,” admired you tremendously. He often spoke and said you were a true man in every sense of the word.

Uncle Winston, my “Carrot Top,” I love you so much. Thank you for being such a bright and beautiful light in our family. You will never, ever be forgotten.

Our hearts are broken, but I find profound comfort in imagining the joyous reunion taking place in Heaven. I picture tears of joy, laughter, warm embraces, and the love of family and friends who have gone before us. I take comfort knowing you are surrounded by those you love once again.

To Leanne, Ben, and Caitlin, please accept my deepest condolences. Know that you are constantly in my thoughts and close in my heart during this difficult time. Uncle Winston’s kind spirit, generous heart, and beautiful legacy will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him. With all my love, Kareen and Steve Spring
