I am very sorry for your loss of Leo, an outstanding man in our community. I have so many lovely memories of Leo. As part of the choir with him for many years I marvel at how patient he was with us young gals who sometimes chatted and giggled when we should have been listening. I looked forward to his presence on my dad’s boat during the annual boat parade. Any time we met up in Mabou he always so interested in what I was up to and inquired about my children, my husband, my mom and dad and… I have always known of his accomplishments in his profession and have watched as he continued to lend a hand to William and Diane during his years of “retirement” and how very proud he was of his of wife Annie all his sons and grandchildren. But what I will hold dearly in my heart is how he made me feel everytime we had a chance to converse. I felt blessed. I know that everytime I drive past his and Annie’s home on my way to the Ridge I will cherish my memories of how he made me feel. May he rest in peace.

Leo and Annie raised true gentlemen in their sons…always kind and thoughtful. His spirit lives on in them…a true test to Leo’s character. You and the entire community will miss him dearly. Our condolences to Annie and all the rest of the family. All of our memories of Leo are good ones. He was always a friend to our family, as well as his comminuty and peers. I don’t even remember what the purpose of my last visit (drop in) to Leo and Annie’s, but Leo opened the door up and wasn’t even surprised to see us after having been away for years. He shook my hand and said “good timing, Annie’s just got the beans out of the stove”. Lol. We had a great visit and a great bite to eat, and a few good laughs too.
I am very sorry for your loss of a great mentor.I first met Leo in the early 1970’s as a 4-H summer assistant.He guided me though my first summer of work, taking me though out the county introducing to all the 4H families.Later I returned to Mabou as the Farm Management Specialist for 5 years and got to know Leo as a very knowledgable ,caring and dedicated person who cared very much for his family and community.On a lighter note,I remember his first words of advice. Never discuss business on these office phones. A week later when I was on the phone, I was getting directions to a client’s farm when the phone operator cut in to our conversation and said there was a shorter way to get to their farm.Leo will be missed by everyone. Again ,I am very sorry for your loss.

We remember how he generously shared his time and knowledge when we started a research project in 1980. We enjoyed running into him at various occasions and having a chat with him. He will be missed by many.
I will always remember my Sunday afternoons going with Jack to visit Leo and Annie. Wonderful, welcoming and warm. Leo once loaned me a set of binoculars when I was about 10years old, I don’t think they left my hands until I returned them to him 6 months later. He will be greatly missed, and you the whole family I wish my condolences.
Dear Annie and Family: My heart sunk upon hearing of Leo’s passing – there are some people that one thinks will be around always and he was one of them. His support and influence to my father as a small farmer during Leo’s time as Ag rep was invaluable. His support and influence to our efforts to build our garden center business can’t be understated – I have said many times, that without Leo’s support on the Farm Loan Board, we would not be here today. Working with him on the Hospital Foundation, he showed me skills that would help me greatly. A gentle and unassuming man (but very strong with his beliefs and vision), I feel my life has been better for having known Leo. Sincere condolences to all of you.
I became acquainted with Leo during the years I was Inspector of Schools for Inverness Co. I have great admiration for the active role he played in education, agriculture and especially 4-H. he was very proud of his family and his community. I offer my sincere sympathy to his family.

Leo was a gentleman with the spirit and interest of his community always in focus. Leo would also take time to talk about family , his admiration for his family was so evident . Leo’s long career in the farming industry of Nova Scotia exemplified what is really meant in the term “extension worker”. In my early days with the N.S. Farm Loan Board I had the great pleasure of having Leo accompany me on my visits with “Leo’s farm families” in Inverness and Victoria Counties. The respect that Leo showed for everyone was noteworthy and returned to him by all who had the pleasure to know him. I was always welcomed into your home and often given the pleasure of sharing a meal at your table and I recall those times fondly. Rest in Peace Leo.
