  1. I retain the fondest of memories of Dorthy and her long lasting friendship with our mother Margaret. Hailing from the same area, they had many, many years of shared memories and hearty laughter in New Waterford. Between them, they knew everybody in Inverness Country! For Auld Lang Syne. May Dorthy rest in Peace.

  4. Mrs. Oliver was my grade 3 teacher at St Agnes School in 1983-84. I just loved her and I know she thought the world of me too. Grading day that year I was so excited to get my certificate because I couldn’t wait to read her assessment and that I had graded to grade 4. I ran to jump in the car with my Dad and I read it aloud to him only to see that Mrs. Oliver failed me. I started to cry in shock. My father knew it was a mistake because she always had so much praise for me at every parent teacher meeting. My Dad took me back into the school to find Mrs. Oliver. She took one look at that certificate and was horrified by her mistake. Anyone but Nancy she said! The story of me failing grade 3 has become a favourite family tale over the years. Mrs. Oliver was my favourite teacher. She believed in me and made me feel special. I now work for the Nova Scotia Teachers Union and her example as a teacher to me has often come across my mind in my work. My deepest condolences to her family on your loss. I hope you can take comfort in your happy family memories during this difficult time. I also hope it brings a smile knowing that Mrs. Oliver has left an impact on the lives she touched. She was a wonderful, caring person. May she rest in peace.

  5. Your mother was my teacher from grade four to grade six and I remember her as a fine teacher and person. Many of the students in our class became teachers and your mother was a major influence in us making that career choice.

  6. Maria – I am so sorry for your loss. I hope your memories will bring you comfort.

I was in her class when we were in grade 4 – I can still remember vividly sitting in her classroom at St Agnes learning cursive writing and long division and prepping for confirmation – and she let me run the gestetner! She influenced so many of us during her long teaching career.

You will both be in my thoughts and prayers.
